Douglas Bissell

Founder and Director of 2L1. He was born in Glasgow, where he was educated before leaving to travel around Europe for three years in his early 20s.

He later trained as a teacher of English as a foreign language (TEFL) in Edinburgh in 1984 before settling in Lisbon and starting his career as a teacher and translator.
Douglas is well known for his unique approach to teaching where he actively encourages his students to participate in activities so they learn to use English in every day situations without the restrictions of a formal classroom. He has worked for many clients including land based transport companies, banks, telecoms and major retail distributors
Douglas enjoys cooking and wrote a monthly column in Teleculinária magazine for many years.
